TODAY’S SOCIETY THAT FOCUSSED ON SUCCESS AND ACHIEVEMENT?

Hey, this is me Nur Ferinie. Books?.. love them so much as it helps to open -up my mind like an atlas..haha..o.k la..then it’s enough..Now it is my pleasure to talk here more about this issue..it is just about  "Today’s society that focuses on success and achievement?”…

I remember the Red Queen in Lewis Caroll ’s book Alice In Wonderland who takes Alice by the hand and urges her to go faster and faster. Today, it seems adults similarly order us to hurry: to go faster and faster and rush into the adulthood.

Indeed , we lack the pleasure and the time to be teenagers: or parents and teachers often remind us that we should no longer not look at the world trough a child’s eyes, because the world is full of adult challenges.

We are expected to excel in studies  , to be eloquent public speakers and to “enrich” our lives today  with art and music lessons, computer classes and whatever courses parents can find for us.

We are repeatedly told:”If you don’t get the high marks, you’ll never get into the best class; you’ll also never  get into the university; you’ll not get a job; etc.”

We must be successful : nothing else counts. Of course there is talk of integrity, compassion and understanding , but eventually all that counts being the most successful with the highest achievements.

I am afraid growing up in such a society. From the time I entered school , I have been under pressure to do well so I could get into the classes , to be first in my form , to achieve the number of distinctions possible .

And I know this is pressure to excel will intestify  as I continue my studies.

Very soon  , I will be an adult without knowing what being young  and carefree was really like. The sad thing is I am not the only one in this boat. Many of my friends have the same trapped feeling where our parents expect us to perform well all the same time with no reprieve or gap year or whatsoever.

This hothouse atmosphere is not the kind of society I would really like to live in. I would rather live n a society where the society where there is not so much pressure to perform brilliantly in everything we do. Please let us savour  this precious time of growing up without Red Queen urging us to rush headlong into adulthood. Nowadays , that is the fact. So I just can say “yes” although I am not really comfortable with it..d a a~~

As the majestic sun rises on the eastern horizon, the first rays creep in through the cracks of my window into my room, I am awakened by the natural sounds of chirping birds and the crowing of the roosters.

At first, I  reluctlantly  open my eyes but soon I drink in the beautiful sight that greets me. Yes , only people who enjoy the serenity to the countryside will appericiate the hushed sounds and the stillness of the morning.

I now open my windows .In the distance, I see the foothills of our Main Range and in the foreground, the paddy fields look invitingly ready for harvesting .The  plants in my garden are wet with the morning dew. Then, a gentle gust of wind blows past me, brushing against me and I smell the fragrance of every flower in my garden, especially the overpowering   scent of roses .

“Oh, what a wonderful world”, I sing to myself, trying to sound like Louis Armstrong but failing miserably-ha ha ..my voice isn’t quite deep enough. I think of all the glorious things I will be doing out in the open on such a wonderful day.

             

   

Eager with anticipation,I proceed with my regular morning rituals.As I am washing up in the bathroom ,I smell the aroma of the fried rice from the kitchen. Honestly,my mother is quite an amazing cook!~~hahahaha……My mouth starts to water, as the aroma teases my tastes buds..ho4..My rumbling stomach agrees and I rush through my morning wash-up in order to attack my  favourite breakfast as quickly as possible.

As I am savouring  every spoonful of delicious fried rice,the little dusty road in front of my house is starting to bustle with activity. The school bus comes along to pick the children , and the parents are busy setting out of their various jobs. And myself? The SPM examination has just finished and all he SPM candidates get a whale of freetime in their life.

Yes,on this glorious morning, I can feel the ectasy of the opening song of my favourite musical..”Oklahoma”…

MY HOPES AND FEARS FOR THE NEXT 10 YEARS:)

    Being rather pessimistic ,I would like to start off with my fears.I guess my most immediate fear is the of the SPM result being announced.Though I always do my best,but I'm a bit worried about not doing enough to get straight A's.As man proposers and God disposes, I know I have done my right on anwering the questions very carefully but i do not know what will happen in the future.That is in God's hands..so better do not think more about it as God knows everything .As an ordinary person,just pray for the success and hoping the best for future.




   This would mean that my parents would have to spend more money to send me to the private college .Even if I had been done SPM,but I'm still worry about scoring brilliantly for the coming SPM result, so as to be eligible to do the university of my choice.:)

   But the greatest fear in the next decade when I turn 25 isthe fear of not successfully completing my degree.What if I failed miserably?For sure my parents would be dissapointed and I will b devastated.What would I do if I were thus to support myself?


   Related to this is the fear of growing older and alone.I love being a teenager with alots of  friends.This is the time when you can really enjoy the best that life has to offer without worrying about working for living,getting married and becoming parents, but without good qualifications , I would be condemned to a low-paying-job.


    My high-flying friends probably will shun me,and no one would want to be my life partner..hehe..and eventually T'd die and unloved.XD...I know being on this age,I should not  be worrying of this.But as a normal person, I have to think of  10 years forward of my future life.Whether like it or not,it should be planned before it begins undercontrol soon.

  But enough gloom and doom!I must make sure that this sad scenario doesn't occur.My greatest hope is that I complete my degree in medical study with distinction:)I wish I can be one of the sponsored student to contribute my study in oversea(Ireland).ha3..I realise this would calls for a lots of diligence and sacrifice but I am more ready to meet this challenge.chaiyyokk!!


   Also,in the next 10 years , I hope I can change for the better.it's not what i'm guessing but its about what i'm hoping for.I tend to be impatient and moody  sometimes which get me into the hot soup with people around, so that is definitely one trait I'd like to get rid of .

   Just as important is my hope that my parents and siblings will remain in good health.For my parents,they are now in their late fifties(I think) and enjoy excellent health, so I certainly hope that no aches and pains which commonly plague those in their sixties will befall them.Mybe it sounds strange but that s the truth daa~~


  Last but not least is my hope that my family and I will always be happy.Happiness is an elusive thing but I hope that we will be content, not only for the next 10 years but also for the rest of our lives:)~~~

Friend in need is a friend indeed

       This old saying " A friend in need is a friend indeed" is both time tested and well proven. As per the "New Dictionary of Cultural Literacy, 3rd Edition, 2002", explanation, the proverb means "A friend who helps out when we are in trouble is a true friend - unlike others who disappear when trouble arises". Meaning of the phrase is misunderstood sometimes as "a needy person becomes a friend to obtain help from others". According to listings of The Oxford Dictionary of Quotations the phrase exists since 11th century. Let's come to the point - Who is the true friend?

      There is no dearth of friends in this world but finding a true friend is really difficult. Lot of people will boast that I have hundreds of friends but when he/she is in trouble how many of the them will extend a helpful hand. True friends always remains friend but opportunists are your friend only when you are physically, mentally and economically sound. Friends always keep changing. How many friends stay in touch with changes of place. You have friends in your primary school but when you leave and move to secondary school you forget these friends and make new friends. Likewise, when you leave school or college you move to join your work place you get new friends and forget old friends. Only few friends stay in touch with changing place and time. 

        What does it show? In fact this is not friendship this is an arrangement to share things, to share work . However, sharing of responsibility in easy and stable manner changes in realfriendship. Most of the time we make friends with some purpose. We do chatting on net, make several friends and mostly opposite sex. How long this friendship continues? There are very less chances that friendship on net may succeed. Exceptions are always there. However, when you make friendship without purpose and your liking and dislikings match each other, chances are that this friendship will last long. True friendship needs compromises, sacrifices and helping attitude towards each other.

       Sometime we becomes more demanding and always expect that a friend will always agree to your viewpoint but this is wrong attitude and you should never expect too much. When you become dependent on someone whether he is your friend actually you are demanding more than needed. However, friendship is other form of love. It is in no terms less than love. If you have true friendship you will love your friend more than any other thing in this world but this world is materialistic so first test and evaluate than go ahead with friendship. People are really lucky who find good friends..

dan biarkan selama 1 jam dan

kemudian 'flush'. Kesan

kotoran/hampas akan hilang dari

tindakan 'citric asid' yang

berada dalam Coke. Satu bahan gantian

untuk mencuci kalau sabun

dah habis! rasa-rasa buat sabun badan 

boleh tak?

3. Untuk menghilangkan kesan karat

dari bumper kereta jenis

chrome : Lap bumper dengan aluminium

foil yang dicelup dengan

Coke. Kesannya karat hilang!

Hari ibu yang disambut pada 21 haribulan Mac setiap tahun telah diterima oleh semua penduduk dunia, tidak terkecuali negara-negara Islam sepertii Malaysia. Seperti "Hari Bapa" dan "Valentine", umat Islam, tanpa usul periksa menerima bulat-bulat apa yang diperkenal dan dianjurkan oleh dunia Barat. Maka berbagai ucapan dan ungkapan diluahkan kepada siibu yang kadang-kadang si anak hanya berkesempatan bertemu dengannya dua atau tiga kali setahun.


ASAL USUL HARI IBU


Sejarah hari ibu telah dikenalpasti sebagai perayaan musim bunga orang-orang Greece, sebagai penghormatan terhadap Rhea, ibu kepada tuhan mereka. Pada tahun 1600 orang-orang England merayakan hari yang mereka namakan sebagai "Mothering Sunday". Ia dirayakan pada hari Ahad keempat setiap Lent. Lent adalah tempoh masa selama 40 hari samada dalam bulan Februari atau Mac. Dalam tempoh ini, sebahagian orang-orang Kristian akan berhenti melakukan atau memakan makanan tertentu atas alasan agama. Amalan tersebut adalah sebagai penghormatan mereka terhadap Mother Mary. Mother Mary adalah Maryam, ibu kepada Nabi Isa Alaihissalam atau Jesus yang mereka anggap sebagai tuhan.




Dalam tempoh tersebut juga, kebanyakan rakyat England yang faqir dan miskin, akan bekerja sebagai pembantu rumah. Mereka sanggup keluar jauh meninggalkan keluarga kerana percaya bahawa Jesus akan memberikan kekayaan dan kesenangan dalam tempoh tersebut. Menjelang hari Ahad keempat, mereka digalakkan untuk bercuti oleh majikan, dan pulang ke kampung untuk bertemu dengan ibu. Setiap ibu akan dihadiahkan dengan Mothering Cake atau kek hari ibu sempena perayaan tersebut.




Amalan dan tradisi ini menular ke seluruh dunia dan ia kini disambut sebagai penghormatan kepada Mother Church. Mother Church dianggap sebagai kuasa spiritual yang agung yang memberi manusia kehidupan dan memullihara mereka dari sebarang kecederaan. Sejak dari itu, perayaan Mothering Sunday telah diadun dengan upacara kegerejaan. Penghormatan mereka terhadap ibu sama taraf dengan penghormatan mereka terhadap gereja.




Di Amerika Syarikat, Hari Ibu disambut seawal 1872 hasil ilham Julia Ward Howe. Beliau adalah seorang aktivis sosial dan telah menulis puisi " The Battle Hymn of The Republic" (TBHoTR). TBHoTR telah dijadikan lagu patriotik yang popular di kalangan warga Amerika. Ungkapan "Hallelujah" dalam bait-bait lagu tersebut menyerlahkan lagi sentuhan Yahudi dan Zionis dalam mencaturkan politik dunia.




Pada tahun 1907 Anna Jarvis dari Philadelphia telah memulakan kempen untuk melancarkan Hari Ibu. Beliau telah berjaya mempengaruhi Mother's Church di Grafton, West Virginia agar meraya dan meraikan Hari Ibu pada hari ulang tahun kedua kematian ibunya, iaitu pada hari Ahad kedua dalam bulan Mei. Semenjak dari itu, Hari Ibu dirayakan saban tahun di Philadelphia.




Anna Jarvis, dan pendokong-pendokongnya telah menulis surat kepada menteri, golongan peniaga dan ahli-ahli politik agar Hari Ibu disambut secara meluas di seluruh wilayah. Matlamat mereka telah berjaya sepenuhnya pada tahun 1911 apabila hari tersebut disambut oleh hampir keseluruhan wilayah Amerika. Pada tahun 1914, Presiden Woodrow Wilson, secara rasminya telah mengisytiharkan Hari Ibu sebagai Hari cuti umum dan mesti raikan pada setiap hari Ahad kedua dalam bulan Mei. Biarpun sebahagian besar negara-negara di dunia menyambutnya pada hari yang berlainan, tetapi negara seperti Denmark, Finland, Itali, Turki, Australia, dan Belgium masih merayakannya pada setiap hari Ahad kedua dalam bulan Mei.




Justeru, apakah justifikasi orang-orang Islam merayakan hari tersebut ?
